Dr Priyantha graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2001. He worked at Kandy Teaching Hospital as a Medical Officer before migrating to Australia in 2009.
After arriving in Australia, he worked in the Emergency Departments of Campbelltown, Liverpool, and Camden hospitals as a Career Medical Officer. In 2012, he moved to Tamworth to pursue a career in general practice.
He passed the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners examination and obtained his FRACGP qualification in 2015. In 2016, he completed a Diploma in Child Health through the University of Sydney.
From 2016 to 2019, Dr Priyantha worked at Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service, where he taught medical students, supervised GP registrars, and acted as a Clinical Teaching Visitor. He has also served as a clinical examiner for the RACGP since 2019.
